On Birthdays
I have to admit it: I kinda suck at birthdays.
When I was growing up, my parents did parties and things, but for whatever reason they were never actually ON my birthday, just nearby. And since the 'nearby' date was When The Party Was, we didn't do much actually ON the day. Very practical, that, but it doesn't instill the same sense of urgency that some folks feel about their birthdays.
For years, despite my best efforts (or forgetfulness...I thrive on urgency), my lovely wife's birthday has been pretty much a FAIL in this regard. Either I forgot, or I planned something for a different day and neglected the actual day, or the universe conspired against her and sent her to the ER, or...well, you get the idea. Something always went wrong.
So this year, I'm going to find a way to make it better. This year, we have reservations for our favorite Tapas place. This year, I'm posting here so that she can see that yes, I remembered ON THE DAY and it is IMPORTANT. Because it is important. And she's worth it.
Happy Birthday, baby. I love you.
